To Be Human: In the Image of God
Sermon Recap
This Sunday, Benton examined what it means for humans to be made in the image of God. In Genesis we see humanity defined, lost, and then revealed again. Every person carries inherent, royal eternal value because they are made in the image of a relational, Trinitarian God.
Scripture Reading
Primary Reading: Genesis 1:26
Supplemental Scripture: Hebrews 1:3, John 14:9, Colossians 1:15–20, James 3:9, 2 Corinthians 3:15–18
See It
C.S. Lewis said there are no “ordinary people.” What changes in how you view yourself and others knowing that all humans have inherent, eternal worth?
Benton uses the example of a mirror when it comes to being made in the image of God: to reflect and represent. What are you turning to, to find your identity and how might you be reflecting that into the world?
2 Corinthians 3:15-18 talks about how we behold Christ and how that transforms our image into being more like Him. What does it mean to you to behold Christ and be shaped by him?
Be It
What are some of the things you believe about yourself? Do they align with being an image bearer of God? Who can you share those things with so they can encourage you this week?
Think of the person in your life you find hardest to see as an image-bearer of God. What would it look like to reflect God’s glory toward them and uplift them as an image bearer?
What rhythm can you add into your life to be shaped more into the image of Christ?
