The Transformed Life: Light in the Darkness
Sermon Recap
This week, Ali continued our series The Transformed Life, looking at Jesus’ life and ministry as told by the Gospel of John. She spoke from John 9, and the story of the miraculous healing of the blind man. When we settle for self-serving systems, we choose to stay blind, but in Jesus we find the light.
SEE IT
What areas of your life feel dark or confusing? What in your life has you asking God the questions, “why is this happening?” or “who is responsible?”
How do any of your current circumstances make you feel left in the dark by God? How do any of them make you feel rejected by God or people?
Where are you choosing to stay blind or in darkness instead of receiving God's transformation?
BE IT
In John 9:5 Jesus says that he is “the light of the world” and in John 8:12 Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus longs to bring transformation that will illuminate all areas of our lives. This week, spend time slowing down to be with Jesus. Ask him what areas of your life he wants to bring into the light and transform.
Jesus transforms us so that we can see and be like him. Choose one way that you are going to exchange how you have been seeing something for how Jesus sees it.
In every situation of John 9, Jesus was actively doing His Father’s work of transformation: Choosing healing over condemnation, love over legalism, connection over rejection, healthy challenge over fear. As you go throughout your day, look for opportunities to partner with Jesus in his work of being the light in dark places.
