Go In Love: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Sermon Recap

This Sunday, Silvana will be speaking from 1 John, looking at the relationship between love and fear, and how they shape our identity and the way we live.

Scripture Reading

1 John 4:16-18

See It

  1. 1 John 4:18 tells us “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.” We often experience fear in conjunction with a lie we are believing about God. Where are you experiencing fear and how is that affecting how you view God?

  2. Isaiah 41:10 says “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Where are you “taking things into your own hands” instead of trusting God with all aspects of your life?

  3. Does fear control your life or does love have the run of the house in your life? (1 John 4:17 MSG)

Be It

  1. Where in your life are you lingering in fear? Where is God asking you to move forward from a place of love?

  2. Can you trace the fear you are experiencing back to a Core Fear? Is it that you don’t belong, aren’t secure, or feel insignificant? This week, ask God to make you aware of when you question your identity in these areas.

  3. This week don’t just ask “How do I make the feeling of fear go away?” Ask, “What part of my identity is fear trying to rename?
