To Be Human: Suffering

Sermon Recap

On Sunday, Dave Rhodes continued our series, To Be Human, looking at our relationship with suffering. Beginning with the garden in Genesis, and continuing through Joseph’s story, Dave examined what God reveals us in and through us in suffering.

Scripture Reading

Reading: Genesis 2:15-17, Genesis 50:19-20, Mark 10:35-45

See It

  1. When you think of the two trees in the Garden of Eden, and God’s words in Genesis 2, “You are free…” do you see it as an opportunity for goodness, or as humanity being set up to fail? Why?

  2. What does Genesis 50:20 reveal about how God might use suffering in our lives?

  3. Where do you see the suffering found in Genesis 3-11 playing out today in 2026?

Be It

  1. When is a moment when you personally have experienced suffering? What did God reveal to you and in you through that experience?

  2. Dave encouraged us to share both the stories of God’s deliverance, and the moments when we weren’t delivered in the way we hoped. What stories come to your mind from your own life? How did those moments shape or impact your faith?

  3. How can you comfort and intercede for those who are suffering in your life?
