See It

1. Genesis 1:28 shows that part of the purpose of life is to create and cultivate in our work. This was given to us before the fall, as part of a good creation. How does that change the way you see the “curse” of work versus what God originally intended?

2. The Hebrew word avodah means both “work” and “worship” — the same word used in Exodus 34:21 (“six days you shall work”) and Joshua 24:15 (“we will serve the Lord”). What does it mean that Scripture doesn’t separate these two ideas?

3. Matthew 27:50-51, we see Jesus tore the veil in the temple and said “it is finished.” And now, Jesus made a way where worship is not just hindered to the temple but it flows into our everyday. What do you think worship looks like in the everyday of someone’s work?

1. Think about your Monday morning (whatever that looks like for you, whether its a job, school, retirement, raising kids, or a season of waiting). What is your motivation for that work?

2. Where in your life are you currently living “severed” — treating your work life and your worship life as two separate spaces? What would it look like this week to bring God into that space?

3. If your workplace, kitchen, classroom, or living room is genuinely holy ground, then what’s one way God might be wanting to redeem that space?
