Advent: Hope
Sermon Recap
On Sunday, Silvana began our Advent series, “What Great Love” with a look at the first theme of Advent: Hope. She spoke from1 John 1:5-7 and Isaiah 9:1-6 about how we experience the transformational power of God as we move from darkness to light.
SEE IT (what is God saying?)
Where do you currently see yourself “walking”—toward the light or toward the darkness—and what does that reveal about what you’re hoping in?
When you think about hope as a “confident expectation,” what do you notice God exposing in you—your doubts, your longings, or your assumptions about Him?
Which quadrant of the Hope Chart (see below) best reflects your heart right now, and what does that show you about how God is meeting you in the tension between darkness/light and doubt/expectancy?
BE IT (what is he calling you to do about it?)
What is one step you can take this week to move toward the light—naming something in the dark, sharing it, or confessing it—so that hope can anchor you?
What would it look like to practice hope as a long obedience—choosing expectancy even if nothing has changed yet?
Where is God inviting you to fuel someone else’s hope—a word, a prayer, a blessing, or encouragement—as a way of becoming a “lit candle” in someone’s darkness
