To Be Human: The LGBTQ+ Community

Sermon Recap

his Sunday, we continued our To Be Human series by exploring how we can reflect Jesus in our relationships with the LGBTQ community through an open posture of grace, a clear position rooted in Scripture, and an ongoing process of relationship.

Scripture Reading

Reading: Genesis 1:26–27; Genesis 2:18–25; John 1:14; John 13:34–35

See It

  1. Posture is Open: Read John 13:34-35 and John 1:14. How does Jesus demonstrate both grace and truth, and what does this reveal about how we are called to love others?

  2. Position is Clear: Read Genesis 2:18–25 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 What do these passages teach us about God’s design for humanity, gender, same-sex attraction, and marriage?

  3. Process is Ongoing: Read Luke 19:1–10. If this happened after Jesus delivered his sermon on the mount, how does Jesus’ interaction with Zacchaeus demonstrate that he can move toward someone in love without compromising truth?

Be It

  1. Posture is Open: Where might God be inviting you to replace judgment, avoidance, or condemnation with greater compassion, curiosity, and grace?

  2. Position Is Clear: When your personal beliefs, experiences, or cultural perspectives differ from Scripture, what does this practically look like for God’s Word to shape your convictions?

  3. Process Is Ongoing: Who is someone in the LGBTQ community that you know, that God is inviting you to move toward in knowing more? What does one practical step you can take this week to strengthen that relationship?
